a) The adage: “A picture speaks a thousand words” is used so often by so many because it is so true.
b) “Do advertisements, flyers, websites, billboards, etc. constitute an art form?” YES! In fact, these forms of promotion are a very real representation of art, in its entirety.
A good promotional piece should communicate a message and be aesthetically pleasing – both characteristics also synonymous with “art”. A graphic designer works with shapes and patterns, and arranges them accordingly to lead the beholder to the information that needs to be delivered. However - more often than not - a graphic designer is not an artist at all, but more an architect or draftsman of patterns and images.
