Well, we must confess, we cheat! ha, ha… Bet you didn’t expect that. We don’t take any “web gurus” advice are read any fancy “text books on the subject”. We simply follow the laws of Google.

Just like there are criminals on our streets there such delivish fiends on the internet. Web security is often a hot topic. You can start keeping your personal information safe by making sure your have secure passwords.

Here are some tips on how to achieve that:

Password Rules

  • Should be about 8 characters long.
  • Should have at least 1 capital letter, 1 lower case letter, and 1 number or symbol such as “‘/*($% etc.
  • Should not be based on your name, netid, or on words found in a dictionary.
  • Should not be based on simple repeating patterns.
  • And you should be able to type it quickly, so someone else cannot look over your shoulder and pick it up that way.

1. Does you home page instantly tell the visitor what your product or service is?
2. Are the URLs human-readable or are they full of special characters that no-one but a computer could read?
3. Can you easily change the content (images and text) yourself? Or do you need to hire someone all the time?
4. Is your contact information readily available on every page – or at least from every page?
5. Do you have an RSS Feed?
6. Do you have a superscription form?
7. Are you commenting on blogs and building relationships with other site-owners in your industry or niche?
8. Can you tell someone how to get to your site without having to spell anything?
9. When is the last time you added new content?
10. Is your site setup for search engine optimisation?
11. Does your site have a site map?
12. Do you promote your site anywhere?
13. Have you subscribed to free or paid online directories?
14. Is anyone linking to your site?
15. Who are you linking too?
16. How does your site look on a mobile device?
17. Does your site look professional, or does it look like a website from 1995?
18. Do you link out to your other web presences (social network profiles, Twitter account, YouTube page, Flicker)?
19. What does it look like in every web browser?
20. How many clicks does it take for a visitor to give you money? (if you have an eCommerce site)
21. Is your site flexible enough to be still working in the next 3 years?
22. Do you have too many ads?
23. Is the entire site backed up? Is it backed up more than once?
24. Is your branding consistent between your site, your printed material, products and your shop?
25. How long does it take your site to load?
